Hey there Stackers!
I’m a brand new addition, fresh in from just an hour or so ago signing up.
Some may notice this is / was written on xmas / just past xmas… and that’s because I got to thinking….
Tomorrow I gotta work… and that’s no good. Time for another change.
(and I do so now BEFORE the new year, to avoid that whole ‘resolution’ shitstorm )
Here’s a brief recent history…
Roughly a year or so ago, I left full time employment in an attempt to build your traditional web business… not realising how little I actually knew.
Being a somewhat skilled writer (everyone needs a talent! ) I turned to Article Writing… charging roughly $0.05 per word and providing the best quality I knew how.
This, no surprises, became labour intensive, the rush for clients was a bit tedious, and after writing about 20,000 words on dining room furniture at a 4% keyword density… I felt like I was back in a ‘JOB’.
Fast Forward… after dabbling in more traditional web business and learning the ropes there, I started training under a man who I consider to be one of the UK’s most talented and amicable Copy Writers.
I became a Copy Writer myself.
I felt like I’d found my calling.
I eventually landed my first ‘big’ client (as it seemed) and ended up on retainer… or more appropriately… on salary.
Which is where we find ourselves now…
Christmas just happened… I’d usually expect to take half the month to cover the Xmas Celebrations, plus getting a good grasp on a maniacal New Year’s Celebration too…
Yet I’ve already had tasks assigned to me for as soon as the 26th.
And I feel like I’m back in a ‘JOB’.
This isn’t the life of freedom and opportunity I hoped for.
Though I AM getting progressively closer.
That’s why I’m here!
I feel I know the fundamentals (and accept I could be miiiiiiles off!)… but now I’m looking for an action plan. Something almost ‘set in stone’ I can dedicate roughly 20 hours per week to, to replace the retainer income I currently earn… while not derailing the dude I’m working with / for… his business.
… So that I can finally break free and actually, with no doubt or hesitation, say I am my own boss.
The dude I’m working with now is awesome… but it’s just really, really not what I’m built for I’m afraid.
So any advice, new friends… would be truly appreciated and met with warm gratitude.
I hope the holidays have been spectacular for you all… Merry Christmas… and great to meet ya
Welcome to the STM buddy

Seems like just the thing so far!

Ditto, just making my way through the guide too, good luck bro. I’m pretty local to you over in Surrey.
Yeah I went to Uni there… University of Surrey, Guildford…
Guildford’s a good place as I recall, although the Uni Years really didn’t live up to the hype, the Tesco was enormous!
Possibly should’ve done a course I cared about, attended, and NOT loopholed my way into a Degree… but what does a 17 year old kid know about what he wants to do?
Hell back then I thought I’d still be happy working for someone else!
Best of luck to you too PC… knock ’em dead
