Wow, not much action going on in this mobile part of the forum. Did everyone give up? Or are you just busy sorting those excel spreadsheets and creating pivot tables?
For those of you running mobile traffic, looking for better ways to optimize without losing 1/2 your clicks through CPVLab, here you go.
(For those of you wondering where I disappeared for the last few weeks, here’s what I’ve been working on).
New Mobile Real-Time-Bidding platform in stealth mode, 2nd price auction, no crazy minimums.
(yep, if we met at adtech, this is what I was talking about).
It’s CPM, and the media is NOT charged up. You just pay an ad serving fee (6-8 cents per CPM depending on your volume).
Takes between $500-$1,000 to optimize most campaigns to where they’re PROFITABLE (not just 20% ROI every other day).
And you get to keep all your data to use as you wish. You can even request to go direct with a specific publisher without having to build your own ad server.
And best of all, it’s USEABLE data – not some crazy made up useless codes.
You can see…
placements (i.e., "The Fart App" or "iTriage" – the actual app name or website)
estimated CPC (you’re paying CPM)
calculated earnings per click (it integrates with whatever tracking platform you’re using so you can see if you’re + or – on a specific item)
CPM – what you’re actually paying per thousand impressions
ECPM – your actual earnings per thousand impressions
Revenue (your actual revenue)
Net Margin %
…and FULL DEMOGRAPHICS – male/female, age, married/single…
…and you can optimize by placements, carriers, devices, time of day, day of the week, demographics…
And check this out – you can optimize by SPECIFIC banner and banner SIZE.
It’s display – banner ads – and also things you don’t see everywhere, like mobile interstitials.
Ok…if you’re not drooling, just back out of this post right now and go buy some Facebook PPC or something.
But if there’s a big puddle on your keyboard, here’s how to buy media right now.
It’s currently being used by several affiliate networks and top 50 app developers…and it’s done millions of conversions. But if you’re an affiliate, this is the only way in right now while it’s still in "stealth" mode.
That’s the "clean" version of the entry page without the stupid initial email opt in (that gets you on Howie’s spam list), without the hyped-up sales pitch targeted at the get-rich-quick crowd.
Be aware, though, that if you click on a package, enter your email & DON’T actually purchase, that you’ll need to opt out of Howie’s list as well.
Well, unless you like getting spammed with get-rich-quick offers.
I had it made especially for you, so you could avoid the IM sales pitch hassle.
It comes with some cool bonuses – like step by step docs (that I created), quick training videos (1/2 posted, 1/2 still in progress), and a variety of live Q&A and coaching calls (some with me, like next week Thursday) so you don’t waste time or money trying to figure it out.
$1500 minimum to get in right now. All goes directly to media. Totally refundable, just like any other ad network (well, the ones that actually respond to you).
This one also comes with training. How cool is that?
Enjoy & ask me questions!
Quick edit: in case you do want the "full pitch" experience – https://www.mobiletradingdesk.com/lau…te-invite.html – I promise it’s the same stuff on both pages, so unless you love reading sales copy, skip it and go for the media, which is the important thing here.
**Let me know if you purchase media so I can make sure you get set up with whatever platform(s) you’re using on your end** Don’t get mixed in with the "get rich quick" crowd here.
Looks like the same page as above but with more free goodies
Same stuff included in above – just less pitch.
Oh – I should also say – those of you who are running your own tracking platform, shoot me a private message & I’ll get you integrated for full stats. Has Offers is fully integrated already.
Liane, I saw it earlier today and my typical reaction to everything that involves Howie is to run away.
However, you’ve cleared up some of my concerns like the markup on the traffic.
I know it sounds paranoid but…
Paranoia is good when it comes to pages starting with "Get money on autopilot…"
I’m tempted to give it a whirl. Just a few questions though.
1) I presume you can rotate offers between different networks?
2) You say $500-$1000 to get a campaign profitable. Is that based on a $1.50 lead gen offer, or a $10 PIN submit? If the former, that seems high cost for optimisation. Also, is your definition of "getting a campaign profitable" when you’ve spent $500 to optimise, you have actually made back your $500 and starting to see a daily profit?
3) What are the thresholds for volume determining what your ad serving fee is?
To be honest, it looks good. Kinda like a Sitescout for mobile. It’s just the typical Howie "make money on autopilot" copy that raises alarm bells.
Yeah, good questions. I hate that Howie put this together like an IM offer. That’s why I made him take off 90% of the crap and just leave his video & the packages on the bottom so I could share it with you guys. I told him I could get more quality people using the platform that way.
"Mobile Trading Desk" is just code name for Human Demand, which is the RTB platform (and ad server) he originally built to run Offermobi offers internally. He ended up taking the technology and starting HD as a separate company from OM so that he could work with more people – developers, affiliate networks, etc.
There’s honestly nothing to stop him from "taking" your data, but that’s just not the business model he’s in with this. I’ll even tell you a story…there was a bidding exchange that used the platform to fill some of their media through another exchange (anonymously, through HD). Ended up their media only cost something like $2 CPM…not an exact number, but suffice it to say that they didn’t have to pay $4 CPM. So when Howie invoiced them, they were kind of surprised that they didn’t get charged the $4. But again, that’s just not the business model. He’s not charging up media. Not trying to steal campaigns. He’s making money by serving ads.
Hope that helps. It’s just like Jumptap, or any other ad network. There’s nothing stopping them from taking your data. But that’s not the business they’re in.
Agree on the paranoia. In this case, again, I have no idea why he decided to brand it that way when I told him I could have plenty of serious affiliates on the platform without it – and probably less with it.
To answer your questions:
1) Yes, you can use any network you want, your own offers, whatever. And if it’s not already integrated with HD (Human Demand), the tech team will set it up for you. You all know how to contact me (this thread, a private, an email, Skype, whatever), so I can get the message across to differentiate you from the "get rich quick" crowd and get your campaigns taken care of.
2) Really depends on the campaign…that’s just a general number, and some campaigns get profitable faster / some slower. I’m in the process of putting together all the training videos re: optimization and what your cut offs "should" be – I say "should" because optimization always depends on your comfort level. But I’ve got recommendations in there that come from running millions of conversions (not me, the system) so you know the basic numbers of when it’s good to turn something off & when you should raise a bid…
3) Not sure re: volume thresholds, but it’s 6-8 cents per CPM.
Anyway…the platform is solid and growing, and you guys running mobile need to be on there. Again, I apologize for the "get rich quick" / "make money on autopilot" front. Please ignore that. This is just a way to get into HD now without waiting for it to go out of stealth.
Also – anyone here want a private webinar showcasing the platform…or to ask questions…let me know & I’ll set it up with the admins here.
Liane, can you please pm me your email – I want to make sure I’ve got a contact.
Can I just put it here?
And FYI, there’s a 7-19 day delay in getting the HD accounts created when you sign up right now. Shoot me your email you signed up with because I’m putting together a priority list for you guys.
From where does the demographics info come? An aggregate ‘picture’ of the user from known apps downloaded?
I’d love to see a short webinar going over the platform, yes please!!
From specific traffic sources that list it – like Mocospace.
Cool, thanks for letting me know.
If I get enough requests I will make sure to set one up.
Hey Liane, I am definitely down to see the short webinar as well!
Count me in for short webinar
yes, webinar would be good for this.
Webinar -Yes please
Cool. How about international traffic? Australia specifically.
You mentioned placement targeting. Just to be clear, I can I block placements/websites or do I have to rely on HD (similar ot Jumptap)?
The 6-8 CPM sounds cheap (even at .02% CTR).
I believe the 6-8 cent CPM fee is in addition to your actual campaign CPM bid prices. Someone correct me if I am wrong about this…
Will the spy tool give away information on the data associated with the ads?
(What are the chances of setting up a deal where STM account holders have their data hidden from the spy tool )
oh and sorry for the noob questions but what sort of volume of traffic is on there and has it been saturated?
1) Yes to international traffic. We have some AUS campaigns running on HD right now.
2) Right – you can, using the self-serve platform, block specific APPs and Sites that don’t work for you. Or you can vary your bid specifically for those placements. No need to email anyone and ask that 987w9eijfPOISJDfp98u3p9i2j3f be blocked…lol. You’ll also know the actual placement (i.e., Angry Birds Seasons or whatever).
The 6-8 cent serving fee is included in your bid price. So you don’t need to add it.
Ex: you bid .61 CPM…that’s what you pay.
Hey thanks for asking this. The answer is no. The spy tool included is a banner spy tool – just gives basic stats on banners (not actual campaigns). That tool’s been around longer than HD has – just wasn’t available to the public. Your data will not be shared with anyone, period. That is NOT the goal of HD.
The traffic comes from exchanges – i.e., MoPub, Nexage, LiveIntent…lots of exchanges being added all the time so the amount of available impressions is always growing. It’s definitely NOT saturated and now is the time to get in before it does get saturated (I give it a year or two). But the saturation has nothing to do with HD itself / who’s in it – it has to do with the RTB space as a whole and how many ad networks actually give access to affiliates (vs. the big guys like Fiksu, for example, that won’t even talk to you unless you’ve got $50k to start).
So honestly, I wouldn’t worry about saturation. If you need more volume, this is one place to get it – and you’re more likely to get more volume here because you can target at a much deeper level.
Just think of the app targeting situation, for example.
When you target apps on admob or jumptap, your quality goes down drastically. On HD, you can blacklist apps that suck, and suddenly, app traffic isn’t that bad – it can actually convert quite nicely.
Hope that helps!
Ex: you bid .61 CPM…that’s what you pay.
You sure about this Liane? My understanding is that even if you bid $5.00 you will only pay 0.01 more than the next highest bid. Its RTB isn’t it?
lol. Thanks for clarifying. I was referring to the question about the 6-8 cent serving fee.
Yes, you pay 1 penny more than the next highest bid, but the distinction I was trying to make was that the serving fee is included in that – it’s not extra on top of it.
Thanks Liane that’s much more clear now
Just looked at this last night. Thanks for the inside info Liane, just answered a few questions I had. I’m in for go!
Me as well. I’ll give it a go as well
Hey Liane – this looks awesome!!
+1 for a STM Webinar
Cool – let me check with Lorenzo about getting the webinar set up for you guys.
Add my upvote for a webinar
Hey guys, just setup my first mobile campaign with this yesterday (takes 7-19 days for things to be live) and was approved this morning and just now activated it. After going through the setup and training material over the past few days things look very promising. It appears that as long as you have a proper budget set aside for testing and gathering sufficient data for optimization, it would be hard NOT to find winning campaigns with this program. So with that in mind I’m very excited about seeing the performance over the next couple of weeks. Will update as things progress.
Please fill us in. Would be interested to hear some feedback on this. Anyone else trying this?
Thanks for the feedback! Looking forward to hearing your campaign results.
Any update about the webinar and network?
Sorry guys – been so busy with the MTD webinars & working on stuff inside of HD. Still looking forward to doing a webinar for you guys, just waiting on Lorenzo to get it all set up.
I do have one approved campaign now for about 10 days and I see no traffic coming in. Also it was very strange because at first two campaign were approved and 2 days later the one was declined. I already submited a ticket to my rep (that is you, Liane) about 7 days ago but never got an answer.
I’m really struggling to get traffic as well.
Liane is super helpful though and I give her a 10/10 (Howie should be so lucky!!!)
Yeah same here, getting traffic but not on MoPub so far
I’m guessing that second campaign was on Liveintent, right? I’m addressing that on tonight’s webinar. Basically the exchange decided to change some rules about the banners they accept. I’ll explain how to resubmit tonight. Regarding no traffic for 10 days…send me your account name & campaign name & I’ll see what’s going on.
Not sure why I didn’t get your message? 7 days ago was Thursday, before the holiday weekend, and I completely cleared out my inbox & the ticket queue at that time. Worst case scenario you can always send me an email or even a private message through here.
Thanks Deon! And if we haven’t addressed traffic on your campaign, go ahead and send me the campaign name also via a support ticket or email.
Strange! Mopub just got a huge lift in impressions & I got a bunch of "complaints" from people who said it ran way too fast. Contact me through one of the support links (MTD / HD) with your account & campaign. I’ll take a look.
How can I join/view this webinar tonight?
It’s in the MTD main login – there’s a registration link for tonight’s webinar & replays for all past webinars.
Webniar Access for non members?
Still waiting for Lorenzo to set it up for you guys…
Ah, didn’t even see it, got it now thanks!
Can’t find it…
It’s in the second section from the top, with the title "MEMBER ONLY WEBINARS"
Log in to MTD, do a search for "webinars" and you’ll find it 🙂
Anyone else feeling like a Beta Tester with the tracking program? lol
@google The tracking is great when it’s running. Can drill down into placements, devices, carriers, banner creatives and WIFI, plus day/time parting too. The only thing it seems not to do is split test landers within the same campaign, you have to set up a separate campaign with the other lander. With that said, the bad news is that it’s had a lot of bugs being worked out by tech support. Two big bugs to touch on; conversion tracking has been off and on every week, (try to optimize when you don’t know where your CR’s have come from) and at times the optimizing controls have locked up for days. Example, when you want to change your CPM bid on a placement you can’t.
Overall Human Demand looks promising, but time will tell. And as for our STM girl Liane she is 10 out of 10 on her support! Big KUDOS to you Liane! 😉
And yeah, those bugs are a bummer, huh? What’s weird is that every time the programmers upgrade / update a service (ex: add a new exchange), they do test it on our accounts first…
Maybe I need to work harder on breaking stuff 😉
I like that idea of split testing pages. I’m gonna suggest that as a future update.
+1 to Liane, she provides amazing support! I’ve come across the bugs as well but Liane has always been on top of it, and the platform has tons of potential. The way I see it, the more we break stuff for them the faster it will get better.
Yeah! For those of you who have been waiting to see stuff in action…finally got a webinar set up for you. Of course, if you’re already on the platform, you’re more than welcome to join.
When: Monday, July 2nd at 16:00 US Pacific time
