I know this will vary for everyone, but I am just saying where I am standing in the grand scheme of things. Im currently at 1500 ad spend without a positive ROI.
is that overall? like all camps piled together?
Yes thats all campaigns piled together for me, haven’t got a campaign that clicks yet. Just seeing how I am stacking up against others
Took me about $2,000
If thtats the case I have long way to go. I’m in for 4 and some change. just did some more camps and if they
get approved I got a winner.
This thread is mildly depressing for a new guy like myself. I’m going to pretend I didn’t see it, and just keep working and learning.
Don’t worry Matt. I didn’t have STM when I started. If I did, I’m sure it wouldn’t have taken as long or as much money.
Rather intesresting question posed there Polarbacon and possibly a cryptic clue in there….hmmm
From my limited knowledge and a months "testing" on POF Im down about $800 with non of the campaigns showing any signs of profit I’ve took a step back to try and look at things in a different perspective.
Basically you need several things to make a positive ROI:
- Good offer that converts
- Good landing page or direct link needs to convert
- Good image, headlines and copy
- Targeted demographic
- Testing strategy
In isolation I think I’ve found each of the first four variables across all the campaigns I have run….BUT….I do not have a nailed down testing strategy.
To put it simply I do not know how to run a test properly and to have the confidence to spend maybe $1k-2k running a proper test to make it profitable…..I "think" this maybe is what Polarbacon is getting at with his question…….apologies if I’m wrong.
I think this is the secret sauce needed to even break even, and its easy to get into the mindest of moving on to the next campaign (Im totally guilty of doing this) before a campaign is tested thoroughly……I got into running something for a day, trying to optimise it, seeing less and less clicks and conversions and then moving on the next campaign, only to repeat the same mistakes the day after.
Theres some gold over on Lianes PPV thread at the moment from Phoenix and eliquid (very clever guys) about testing and strategies, for me it answers a lot of questions about where Ive been going wrong.
So going forward I need to nail down a proper testing system, step 1, step 2 etc and then have another go and not just put up another campign for the sake of it.
What Im learning from my time here is that all the answers are here in one form or another you just have to dig around like crazy to find them….then put them all together. This is the tricky part and something I havent mastered yet
I think you’re over thinking it.
#1 and #2 – Convert 1 in 10
#3 – Get ads with .1 or better
#4 – You’re running dating ads to people on a dating site…It is targeted
#5 – The total of numbers 1-4. If you can convert 1 in 10 clicks and you have a .1 CTR, take your offer payout divide by 10 and thats the price you can pay to break even.
Example: true.com pays $3.50
divide by 10 = .35 = I can pay 35 cents a click to break even
If I have .1 CTR on my ads, I can pay 35 cents CPM to break even.
Now, to make money, I need to convert better than 1 in 10 or get a better CTR than .1
By the way, you don’t need 1-2k to test properly, but you do need to do things for more than a day to get good data.
I know this is not PoF, but people are telling me all the CPC engines are mostly the same and if you can make it work in FB, you can make it work in PoF and vice versa ( but I dunno, haven’t tried, so take my words with a grain of salt)
What I did with my FB version of dating is:
1- test to see if the offer convert. I didn’t even do this. I trusted my AM on this.
2- test a gazillion images in batches. Pick a few good ones each time. Rinse / repeat. Lose money testing.
3- As time passes, losses will minimize so don’t be afraid. My camp went from losing -$50 a day, to -$40, -$30, -$20, then breakeven point. I got stuck at this point as my offer went wonky so I haven’t got a chance to monetize it … GRRRRR
As to why the diminishing losses?
First test run = all crappy image = total lost
2nd test run = found 1 winner. Optimize
3rd test run = 1 optimized winner compensating your losers. Find another winner. optimize.
4th test run = 2 optimized winners bla bla you get the idea. Also, the optimized winners will compensate more and more as their CPC will keep dropping.
It really depends of the offer and how tight the demographic is.
I’ve spend $50 in testing pof traffic with zero sales. But I took the resultant data and applied my findings to another offer which was profitable off the bat due to the data research.
That said, only yesterday I ran an offer of a very tight demographic, giving me a profit of $72.25 on only a 23 cents ad spend. Not a typical day, but a nice one.
The guy I learned from taught me to test the crap out of EVERYTHING.
Latest campaign I run I had generated 1k revenue with 1100 spend. Just couldnt get my ads to last past the initial burst.
Wow man, what sort of offers are you running?
Must be very broad for $1500 spend and no profits?
What I encourage people to do on pof, is run niche offers and by niches I dont mean run a lander in front of true.com or speeddate I mean direct the link the goodies like seniors, parents, bbws, blacks etc there are loads of offers that convert upwards of 20-30%!
These campaigns are generally very long lasting too and its not surprising to see 4-5 of your ads last for months on end making profits.
So yeah, if your looking for your first profits from pof, skip the tech stuff and K.I.S.S it and pick the niche and direct link the niche offer, call the niche out in the headline
"Wanted! Single Dads" "We Need Black Women!" "Our Men Love BBW’s" etc….
Break these campaigns up into M and F for quality purposes and make sure you split ages into 5-19 year gaps
Best of luck man
PM if you would like some more help!
like 20 bucks promoting a dating offer lol.. it had almost 100% ROI but I didn’t know how to scale it past like 15 a day, and lost focus on it. it was really easy, but really targetted; i think that’s a pretty big part lol, obviously..
Hey Maynzie would you be able to suggest some good niche offers for pof? Cause all the niche offers im trying im only getting like 8-19% cvr
Yeah sure man, there are many stable ones out there, but if you run these keep an eye on quality and try to run a bit more female then male to stay on them longer term
Without a doubt the best niche offers are the peoplemeet offers including bbpeoplemeet.com singleparentsmeet.com seniorpeoplemeet.com and blackpeoplemeet.com
The payouts begin somewhat low, but many pubs including myself after running 100 or so leads to blacks and seniors you can ask for bumps and eventually get up to $9/lead which is almost double the usual payout
Other good ones are the mate1 offers with the niche tags like BBW and Latina etc.
Also Christian Mingle has been a big winner for me
Hope that helps man!
great post….thanks for the share
Are these the offers that pop up with the search of body type or whatever?
thanks man, but how would you go by getting that high of a payout? Cause the network dosent even get paid that much do they?
I’m not to sure what you mean sorry man :S the landers for those pages are very short submits, opt in and you get the lead and I believe they dont scrub at all because hell conversions are huge lol.
For every new affiliate on these offers, they give the network and affiliate an initial capped lead price, but if you can push 100-190 leads that are GOOD quality, the advertiser has no worries paying up to $12-$15/lead for the network and the affiliate
But this is only for seniorpeoplemeet.com and you can get around $7-$8 for blackpeoplemeet
A tip for getting good quality is targeting the ages that they actually do ask for, and target higher educations and incomes.
This will shorten your demo, but your profits will be higher then if you ran a broader approach
Hope this helps!
