I notice alot of the networks support SOAP protocol API’s….
How do you guys use them to automate your backend accounting/bookkeeping? Or if you use them for something else as well (look up offers, etc??), would love to hear it…
ie. i am thinking of doing a script that pulls all the data nightly so that i can send it to a bookkeeper. Instead of me logging in or giving some one else my network login to look up last nights revenue..
It’s certainly possible to use the CAKE API to automatically pull a list of offers. That’s been on my to-investigate list for about the past six months so I haven’t actually tried it in practise, but I think bbrock32’s done it in the past.
I actually hadn’t thought of using it to automatically pull reports for bookkeeping – derp! Would be very interested to hear how you get on with that.
I just built a Google Docs P&L spreadsheet that automatically pulls revenues for all my offers against all my traffic expenses, by offer, and sorts them into separate sheets by day and month. It auto-updates every few hours.
It’s very possible and very awesome. You’ll just need to do some research on XML parsing to get it right.
That looks interesting!
How do you get the data, using feeds / api or just scraping them?
Would also love to hear more about this, if there’s any of the scripts or websites you found you wouldn’t mind sharing!
Just use api keys and pull data from url. Then you can use parse this data into excel sheets.
a tutorial on how to do this would be a great addition to STM
would love to know how to do this as well
I second this.. Please do…
Eh, what you doing hiding this haha! Like Stacks said… sell that baby. I won’t be Googling XML parsing any time soon…
I did similar project, but no the exact one, I gave the developer dummy accounts – accounts with no too much data,
but it was enough for him to build the automation above it..
even if you buy that script, you will always need to fix/add things –
the script of allthegold will probably not be perfect for you..
Doing this for one traffic source and one revenue source is one thing, but did you do this for ALL traffic and revenue sources? If so, you most definitely get my respect.
I’m glad everyone likes my idea!
Unfortunately there’s no easy way to sell it – every traffic source, network, and 3rd party tool has it’s own API documentation and syntax. There’s no such thing as a "one size fits all" for this specific project.
The good news is that almost every network runs on CAKE, so you’ll only need to create one function that can be reused to fit most of your incoming revenue cells.
Traffic sources are all handled in their own ways and require custom API calls for each. Some boutique traffic sources don’t have an API at all and you’ll be stuck with manual entry on those.
So, basically, you have to do this yourself.
