I have a direct linking campaign where one target is showing some promise. The target has converted 5 times over a couple of days but is overall running at a loss. The stats look like this:
Cost: About $70
Revenue: About $31
Loss: About $39
Is this the type of consistently converting target that is worth spending the time to optimize? It is good for about 3-4 conversions a day just at LI and possibly more if expanded to other traffic sources.
What are my options at this point for trying to optimize this target to profitability or is it too far break even and not enough daily volume to bother?
From reading around I know I could:
(a) decrease the bid – this would probably cause the traffic to plummet though
(b) split test direct linking with a lander
(c) try testing the same target and offer with a different network
(d) try variations on the URL to see if any of them convert better or are cheaper etc
Am I missing anything from the above list and should I even bother with it being so far from break even and not huge volume?

All of your ideas are valid. Decreasing the bid might result in less traffic, but overall profitability. Still, I would test other things first starting with adding a landing page.

– Go find similar targets to the one that is giving you conversions.
