Hi Guys, my name is Andrew and I joined STM in August and first of all I want to thank you all for creating this awesome supportive community with such huge database of informations.
I will make $100/day on POF. I am in online business for like six years, I run some adult sites and e-commerce business. At the moment my cashflow isn’t at the ideal level so I want to dive into paid affiliate marketing. Till today I made a lot of research on STM, made a lot of notes and I think I’m ready to jump in to the game and start working hard. I hope this journal will help me stay focused and motivated and will show to all newbies that there is a way to success on POF.
My daily spend limit before I get into green numbers is $50
So in worst scenario I have 100 days to learn
Adobe Muse + Photoshop
What have I done on POF in past?
Before 14 days I launched first three campaigns on -190 % ROI, they were targeted to older men who are looking for younger girls, offer was Sweet and Saucy 40+. But it didn’t work at all. My LP (using offer template) got CTR 35 %, but my ads had terrible CTR under 0.06. I targeted two age groups 40-44 and 45-50, tried various login counts.
It ran for two days and I didn’t get single conversion, I’m not sure how good That Sweet or Saucy offer is, but I will choose something more familiar for next campaign to not waste my money on wrong offer. I will also split test them.
Today i decided to dive into female traffic as i expect less competition here. I will go into rich men niche with richmen.com offer. For older ladies i will also split test with be2 35+, mate1 40+ and FortyPlusSingles. I already brained like 15 angles to do this and did some research on why girls want rich men to get in to their heads more deeply.
I will post next update immediately after I run this female campaign, now going to make some Tea and continue work on LP’s and gaining men images (I prefer work on ladies thumbs, hehe )
Thanks for attention guys! 🙂
For each angle test a few different templates (as diverse as possible). No need to test more than 5 each. Also monitor the Richmen offer. Not sure how solid it is anymore.
Best of luck!
Looks good – let us know how you get on!
Good work on the multiple angles and offers – keep launching and you’ll get a good feel for what works.
Excited to see how your journey will progress!
Will be starting my own follow along soon and hopefully can get some pointers from this thread
So i finally finished my first female campaign and just submitted 5 campaigns to approval.
5 Campaigns, each for different age group. Angle and rest of targeting options are same for all 5 campaigns.
Every campaign has 2×6 ad images with two different copies.
Till I get any data, I use only one LP and 6 ad images. I will tweak creatives and LP later.
Is that right approach to run campaigns?
What to do when i have like 6 ideas to copy for same angle? Split test it all in one campaign or make separated campaigns with 2 copies per each?
I have written down like 10 other angles for this niche, I will do the same for each of them with different with various creatives.
I will post my first results tomorrow.
Your set-up is a bit confusing. Try this:
- Find 15 amateur pics
- Create 2 ad copies for each image
- Test 10 at once (I test them all at once but do 10 since you are starting)
- Let each ad run for 1.3k to 1.5k imp and kill the ones that get no clicks
I do another kill at 5k and a final one around 7k to 10k imp. Definitely split test the same offers on different networks, you will be surprise at how the same offer converts better on another network. Create at least 2 LP ( i do 4) and split test, keep the one with the highest CTR. Rinse and repeat. The goal is to get LOW CPC and High EPC!!!
Today i woke up and didn’t believe to my eyes, 2 of 4 campaigns ended up in PROFIT!
ROI: 42.9 %
LP CTR: 57 % !!! I think this is not bad for my second shot, is it?
Ads CTR: 0.037 (here is room for HUGE improvement)
Today i will focus to improving my ADS, if i double my overall CTR, i will get in profit. But i understand i have very small sample yet to make any conclusions.
Thanks for all your advices gray! Do you test these pics in one campaign? so you have 30 ads with 2×15 pics? Or do you create new campaign for each copy?
I usually test the same images on all my camps, split them up (24-29, 30-34, 35-39). Different age group perform better. I get around 40 ads when i test two headlines, i see a big difference when i test the same image with a different ad copy that’s why it’s important to test. Focus on getting high CTR on your ads, this makes your clicks cheaper and more traffic to your LP and offer. Call out your user on the ad copy and make it simple. My ugly LP’s are performing better than the professional ones.
Keep testing bro!
PS, Get POF pro ASAP! It’s so much easier to see what’s working and you are able to split test multiple LP’s and offers with a single click. Now all you have to do is focus on the creative side of things like creating ads, LP’s and seeing your money rise!
.37 is a very high ctr, and your LP ctr is very high also, if you kept running that campaign, it would most likely be profitable imo. I’d kill for a .37 on pof
Gray171: I’m already on POFpro, Tom is doing awesome job with it! Just thinking, if it’s worth to upgrade to PRO plan, at the moment i am using Basic one. What do you think?
keepitsimple: Thanks! My overall ctr will propably improve as I just cut out not working ads, this is the starting point.
By the way, right now i am in profit for today, this is something I totally didn’t expect so soon! Now I will get in to more networks and split test offers, ad copy, images and LP’S. I’ll keep you guys updated.
So I didn’t make it to profit. My stats are even worse, but it’s okay, it can’t go so easily.
ROI: 35.1 %
Ads CTR: 0.037
LP CTR: 48 %
CVR: 10 %
Only thing I did this day was deactivating bad performing ads, I thought it will help to overall performance, but overall ads CTR stayed the same and ROI was even worse.
I am still a bit confused about split testing everything, there are so many factors and each ad performs so differently in different age groups. And we have these login counts, different copy, countries etc…
Questions of the day:
I have ads, which are in profit even on CTR of 0.038 and 0.042. So I’m not sure on what CPM to cut my ads as I don’t want to cut profitable ones and i heard somewhere that females click less. Does anyone have experience with female traffic CTR?
Do you recommend to split US and CA traffic to different campaigns? Do they often perform differently?
1. I will definitely test dose of new images, at least 20.
2. I will split test copy for currently top performing ads.
3. I will start campaigns for new, tighter angle on same niche.
US and CA definitely perform differently, yes. I’d recommend splitting them up. I’d also recommend splitting the US up a bit – the coastal states and the inland/southern states perform differently.
Yesterday, I didn’t have single conversion. Time to pause campaigns as all of my ads are under 0.06 ctr on 15 000+ impressions and try to make better creatives.
ROI: 0 %
Ads CTR: 0.044 (improved a bit)
LP CTR: 30.2 %
CVR: 0 %
I will keep these broad campaigns on ice for a while and focus on running tighter angle first.
Lesson learned.. Don’t keep these low CTR ads alive for so long…
I would cut them if they don’t get a click at 1,500 impressions. Maybe 2,000 if you don’t have new creatives with new angles or different designs ready to test. But you should always be working on them.
You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win. ~ Zig Ziglar
maynzie: What’s funny here? I just try to motivate myself
This is going to be harder then i thought.
On day 5 my new 4 campaigns with lots of new images got started. 4 campaigns, 15 images and 2 copies each. I know, 15 is a little bit too much, but I wanted to test a really solid quantity of ad images.
ADS CTR: 0.045
LP CTR: 52.9 %
Today it looks i finally got some solid ads above 0.1, even 0.2 CTR, so when my hurdles kill all the rest i hope i can be at least break even.
What’s good CVR for a solid offer? I am at 5.3 % for richmen.com and I have feeling that it’s not enough. I also got contacted by mundomedia because they saw my ads so I have some new offers to test. Offers are frustrating me most as I don’t have any guaranteed one, so I don’t know if is problem with traffic quality, my creatives or in offer. There are so many variables…
maynzie: What’s funny here? I just try to motivate myself
Nothing funny, was winking to keep you going man !
PM me, I think I have an offer you could make work
ADS CTR: 0.055
LP CTR: 26.8 %
Yesterday I almost made it to profit, which is a bit of surprise for me. 2 of 4 campaigns were profitable. The only difference between profitable and not profitable ones is age range. Now I have to send my id to POF to fund my account with more $$.
Now it’s time to turn this campaigns into profitable state.
maynzie: Thanks a lot bro, I just read it wrong.. Will send you PM now
nice! You’re moving towards break even, so that’s a good sign.
Keep testing those creatives and keep optimizing!
AD CTR: 0.036%
LP CTR: 27%
Yesterday I was iced as I didn’t have my POF account verified, so my numbers are low. I also didn’t make it to do any massive changes yesterday as I was busy with other things like english lessons and my commerce business…. Anyway, I found one terrible mistake in my targeting, somehow I didn’t targeted BBW demo with these BBW campaigna.. eh Today I fixed it, picked the best thumbs from first tests and customised my LP for BBW niche. I hope I can make it to profit today.
One interesting thing I noticed are ad images performance. I have one crazy ad image, one of the most boring guys in my set, which have done more sales than all other images together!
It’s pretty crazy and it confuses me a bit, especially when all these conversions have come from 1 campaign (1 age segment).
Yesterday also Neverblue accepted me after like 40 days after my signup 🙂 Is Neverblue a solid network? Now I am in 6 different aff networks, so I’m going to pick-up the next niche offer. This time i want some, I can easily split-test between offers/networks. I will probably try some black people/BBW offers targeted to men.
Neverblue are solid in my experience, yep.
So after improving my demo targeting and modifying LP for it I got first profitable day.
ROI: 38.6 %
AD CTR: 0.090% (improved a lot)
LP CTR: 87.5 % (wtf high LP CTR)
Only problem is that my spend is horribly low, I have to scale it now.
Satori; good job on getting profitable and than LP CTR is very sexy.
What is the CVR rate so far on the LP? I have the same issues on spending and planning to load 1000s of camps to increase. Good luck to ya. PM me if you want to link up through Skype and share ideas.
Wow, so fast B/E, cool!
Nicely done! That’s a pretty impressive LP CTR.
Now check it remains profitable, then test and scale!
gray171: 78 % after 2 days, it’s pretty new. I’ll send you PM 😉
Today, I’m experiencing pretty weird thing, for like 6 hours, my campaigns aren’t getting any impressions. I have creatives running, I tried to increase my bids, nothing helped. Anyone is experiencing the same today? What’s the reason?
So after about 15 hours, campaigns randomly started to gain impressions again. Problem solved, but still don’t know what the f….
In case you haven’t heard, POF stopped serving ads from their self-serve most of that day. Some tech issue.
This week I paused female campaign for now as It wasn’t profitable in long term as my CTR’s dropped day by day.
My final stats for it are on this screenshot (forum upload make img too small, dunno why):
LP1 CTR: 68.9 %
LP2 CTR: 41.5 %
Do you guys think I can make it profitable? I will give it a try as soon as i get little more experiences with getting higher CTR.
I prepared male campaign for new angle and waiting to get my creatives approved. Next 7 days I will try to run new campaigns every day as I haven’t made much progress this week.
LP1 CTR is F*Cking awesome. How many clicks that LP got? What is the cvr rate?
Why not continue with the 25-29 campaign? Looks like that one was doing pretty well. Throw some more creatives in and optimise a bit more and you could have a steady earner there.
gray171: Thanks, CVR was 6 %, is that good or…?
caurmen: Bro, you’re right, I shall not give it up so soon!
Anyway, I have started new campaign with tight targeting.
Spend: $1.47 (haha, it ran for few hours with very tight targeting)
LP CTR: 55.6 %
Ads CTR: 0.345 (best CTR yet)
Today I will make this campaign targeting a little bit broader and will try to revive my previous female campaign as caurmen recommended. Only 85 days left, it’s time for massive action!
6% is not very good if traffic is coming from a lander.
If sending direct, then 6% still isn’t great. Traffic should be > 10% as that’s 1:10 converting to a free lead.
Slowly scaling my little campaigns and yesterday I hit first xx day. Thanks to caurmen i put my profiting campaign from early days back to live and it is profitable pretty stable. I’m just playing with getting higher CTR on it.
But still not enough volume, can’t wait to run something broader today/tomorrow as I have a plan already
Awesome! Nice work!
Looking forward to hearing how the new campaign goes – keep on launchin’!
So my first week in profit guys…
I managed it out to get higher CTR’s and together wit solid LP’s CTR I have good cpc. But I’m not still satisfied with offers performance. My overall landers CTR is around 60 %, but I think my overall CVR’s are pretty low, only 6.8 % .. what do you think? Should I look for better offers? I already split tested some, but still nothing ass kicking.
Ah, these damn little attached pictures… Here’s a screenshot of my week – https://cl.ly/image/3h1B1G012c12
I tried broader campaign for like 40 hours this week, managed it to get CTR above 0.100 in two age segments, but I got like 20 clicks without single conversion. It was on SpeedDate offer.. so I need some broad offer, which could work better and I can double my earnings easily. Any advice?
// BTW, what do you guys think about exit pop-ups? Do you recommend to use them?
Nice! Congrats on the first week in profit!
Offers: how many networks have you split-tested your current offer across? I’d definitely split-test a working offer across a bunch of networks before looking for new offers.
I would definitely test out exit pops.
Check this one out: https://ipyxel.com/1-more-killer-stra…re-they-leave/
caurmen: I split tested offers from 4 networks, to this time only Convert2media offers works for me. But today I got accepted to Adsimilis and reactivated my apply to F5. So I hope I will have more quality offers to select from.
ffclogin: Thanks Tom, I already use it, just wanted to know someone else’s opinion.
Anyway still doing few bucks a day and working on big broad campaign. I want to increase my spends, wish me a good luck guys
UPDATE after almost 3 months of inactivity in my follow along.. so what’s the current status? I have never given up, just wanted to focus on campaigns…
In last 4 months I’ve done a lot of things…
1. I spent like hundreds hours running POF campaigns and reading everything, I work at nights, on weekends, I wanna succeed so badly!
2. I have learned some basic HTML / Photoshop as I wasn’t experienced with these things.
3. My workflow improved a lot, I’m much faster, found many tricks do to things more effectively
4. Spent over 200 hours in English lessons to improve my English as I’m not a native speaker.
5. Dealt with multiple depressions and frustrations, almost every week, but never gave up.
6. I’ve spent like $3000 and I’m like in $1500 loss. On my top days, I made around $30/day. I experienced like 3 days like this.
7. Managed it to get solid CTR’s on ad creatives (0.2+) and LP’s (50-60% as a standard)
8. Signed up to 10+ networks, tested 30+ offers in various niches.
I haven’t managed to get normal CVR, this is why I’m re-updating this follow along as I’m really frustrated about it….
For example these are stats for my last 7 days, I have really solid CTR’s even when I’m testing new campaigns, my landing pages overall CTR is around 55% but yeah, today I’ve got CVR of 1.6%. There were some weeks I made $xx profit, but this was temporary and again, CVR’s died out quickly! I tried both male and female demo, even lesbian..
Here are stats for last 7 days:
The main problem is I’m running out of my budget slowly, at the moment I have like $2-3k left and after all this effort I haven’t broken POF yet. I don’t have other income at the moment so I’m not sure what to do next. I think I’m not stupid as I’ve marketed multiple e-commerce, file sharing, porn sites in the past and had success there. I decided to give it all to affiliate, but right now I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Few Last things I don’t understand to and want to get explained from you guys…
When I log-in to POF to check what other guys in various niches are running, I can see like 5 crappy LP’s templates running all over and over again, WTF?! It looks like there are only guys who copy everything and I don’t understand how they make any $$ with this approach.
When I go through last 10 POF follow alongs, nobody made much profit. Are you guys still making money there?
Is there still potential in POF? Am I not wasting my energy in the wrong place? I know POF is still being recommended to all newbies, but isn’t it just some outdated advice?
Any advices will be much appreciated, I am also open to share my experience here or on Skype guys, feel free to add me.
People are still making money on POF, but it’s KEY at this point to target smaller niches if you don’t have a lot of experience. If you’re trying to run broad on US/CA/UK, that’s tough. Can you tell us a bit more about the targeting you’re using?
It looks like you’re very close to breaking through. The important thing to consider at this point is what you’re doing the same every time. Are you using the same templates or designs for your LPs? Are you using the same targeting every time? Are there phrases you always use or sources for images you always hit?
One weird question: when was the last time that you put up a lander (in particular) that performed absolutely terribly?
Thanks a lot for an encouragement caurmen, I appreciate it a lot!
I was running curvy females, black men, rich men to curvy females, older guys to asian girls, older black guys to black girls… I think it’s somehow between broad and micro targeted so I will try to narrow it even more as it looks like the only sustainable way at the moment.
To your questions.. I’m trying to create LP design which fit to offer page most of the time, my targeting vary, I play with login counts, bids, ages, everything. I also use fresh images and copy for every new campaign and it looks like I got good sense fort images with high CTR as I need to test like 10-20 images to get 5-19 working ones with solid CTR. But the fuc*ing CVR… I am really sure that solid offer can make my success. And to your question about terribly performing lander… I think that I had nothing under 40% CTR. What do you mean by this question? Should I do some bad landers?
Anyway, my mood and motivation survived again, I wrote previous post in negative mood. Just finished reading Charles Ngo Rising series and it helped me a lot to stay on track, also you caurmen and your answer! I also decided to sell my car and use the money for affiliate if needed. That’s good $15000, there is nothing that can stop me.
I’m not giving up, I will update you with my progress in next days / weeks. Going to hunt micro niches all weekend!
Good luck man,
I am only a week or so into my first campaign so haven’t had the highs and lows that you have had but have definitely had some days that have looked much better than others! Actually am not running any campaigns right now as the merchant paused the offer (without telling the network!) fortunately my POF advertising was paused at the time.
Anyway, thank you for the last couple of posts which have been quite inspirational to me. I am planning to take the micro niche approach myself so look forward to following your progress!
Why I’m asking about bad landers: if you’re never seeing a bad lander, you’re either an absolute landing page genius or you’re not taking enough risks with your landers.
One of the usual failure modes for people learning to be affiliates is to continually test small changes – a new image here, a copy change there, maybe a new CTA – rather than testing really, really widely. That tends to get you stuck in a rut because you’re essentially testing the same thing over and over again with minor changes. So you’ll see very similar results every time – but you’ll never see huge success or huge failure.
The statistical term for this is a "local maximum".
To break out of this, I’d recommend testing some seriously crazy shit.
TRY to design a bad lander – with the rules that it has to be possible to convert through it, but nothing else.
Try a lander with no images.
Try a lander with no text.
Try emulating the design of magazine articles, landing pages from completely different industries, hell, even Google Ads.
Try a coupon design.
Try a video landing page.
Try persuading the user NOT to click.
Try something really interactive.
Try making a mini-site rather than a single page lander.
Screenshot the offer page and use that as your lander with a line or two of new text.
And so on.
I know from conversations with other STM members that a lot of successful affiliates test really, really broad. If you’re seeing similar results every time, the chances are you’re doing similar things every time. Push beyond that to see success.
You’re absolutely right about the small changes mate! Thanks for the gold again!
u still doing AM on POF?
@Satori , care to update this once in a while. Just say, i am still thriving…
Let’s close this FA guys, here i a little recap. It was long and demanding journey, but after hundreds of hours and many emotional rollercoasters I’ve managed it to make some steady profit. My campaigns are currently making stable $20-30/day. I know, it’s not much, but for me it’s a WIN as I haven’t seen any POF success on STM for ages. I’ve spent on this "education" $3000 and got back $3500 + experience.
It isn’t easy and you probably aren’t going to make higher $xxx on POF, but it is still possible to profit and I can’t imagine better affiliate education.
I learned a lot:
– All technical stuff like doing LP’s, html edit, PS, tracking and so on.
– Patience – this is what you need on such overcrowded platform without big scale possibilities. I wanted to give up like three times, but I decided to keep going every time. I couldn’t accept my failure of not trying hard enough.
– I created over 100 LP’s, like hundred of angles and thousands of ads, I got some sense for what people react positively on
– I took 300 hours of english lessons during last 6 months just to gain informations in english faster
– After last mood drop and depressive post in my FA like 2 months ago, I reworked everything, created bunch of new LP’s managed it to get stable 0.150%+ small ads CTR on whole portfolio and 50% LP’s CTR
– I’ve learned how to communicate with AM’s to get maximum out of CPA networks and created some nice relationships.
– create lots of small niched campaigns with high CTR’s, some of my campaigns have CTR 0.900%+ with small ads.
– always start with login count <50
– I scaled campaigns like this: login count 50, 100-190, 200-250, 300-350. My idea was to give users a break from seeing your ads to refresh them a bit.
– I’ve always started with US and then scaled to CA/UK, there are some very solid UK offers, but US worked best for me
– Love2meet UK offer (Adsimilis, CPATrend)
– female campaigns and couples images = top CTR for me
– target people’s insecurities
– simple LP’s with top images from ads, easily editable for all your angles
– CPATrend, CPAFuel, Convert2media offers
– STM membership is a must
– Bid low, my overall bid is around $0.30 and still I get 0.150%+ CTR on small ads. Try to increase bids for campaigns with huge ROI’s to get more volume and higher profits.
– don’t copy currently running LP’s from POF SPY, they are around for years and aren’t perform well, create something new
– don’t use FREE word, you don’t need it to get high CTR
– exercise and meditate unless you don’t want to get crazy
– read malandarras.com and charlesngo.com
Many lessons learned, now I’m moving to the Mobile journey with my mastermind group fellows, wish me a good luck to finally reach my $100 day and even more 🙂
Thanks, i personally took a lot from your thread and applied it somewhere else.
Thanks again for this beautiful thread… !
Really good tips! I’d particularly agree with your "bracketed" approach to login counts – it seems to work very well at reducing burnout. And yes – the simpler the LP the better in many cases, particularly on POF.
Beautiful Thread indeed and a lot to learn from it so thanks for putting in the effort.
I think that the most important rules of AM are the last 2 points:
– exercise and meditate unless you don’t want to get crazy
– read malandarras.com and charlesngo.com – or whatever you find it works for you.
Also it seems like this is the path most beginners follow. Learn everything they can on POF and
move to mobile or something else.
I’m still trying to break even but I’m happy to see I find some of my improvements in your
follow along and even if I think maaa .. "should I try something else", this motives me not
to give up POF and make it profitable.
Hope I’m getting this right and I would really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks again and best of luck!
Thanks to everyone! It’s nice to hear that this FA helped to some of you.
That was exactly what I have done. I felt like giving up so many times.. Reading STM always helped. I wanted to make it work just to prove myself that I’m able to do it. Now I’ve got confidence to approach another markets. It’s all about practice and not being afraid to fail. Keep going mate and feel free to add me on Skype, I could help
@caurmen I’ve also forgot to say thank you for your work here on STM which helped me so much. Thanks for everything! Now as I’m approaching mobile I’m grateful again, I love your indexes )
